IESL Hosts Awareness Session on Engineering Degree Program Recognition

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) held a successful awareness session titled “How to Obtain IESL Recognition for Your Engineering Degree Program and Why?” on October 16, 2024, at Hotel Galadari. The event attracted university representatives, academic professionals, and stakeholders from the engineering community, aiming to provide valuable insights into the process and benefits of obtaining IESL accreditation for engineering degree programs.





The session was chaired by IESL President, Eng. (Prof.) Ranjith Dissanayake, and featured key contributions from President-Elect Eng. Grannie R. Jayalath, Chairman of the Engineering Sciences Committee (ESC) Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya, and CEO/Executive Secretary of IESL Eng. Neil Abeysekara. Their remarks underscored the importance of aligning degree programs with international standards to enhance the global recognition and employability of graduates.



Eng. (Prof.) Udayanga Hemapala delivering comprehensive presentations. They provided detailed guidance on the IESL accreditation process, including essential criteria, documentation requirements, and the long-term advantages for institutions, students, and employers.



Participants were also briefed on the strategic significance of IESL recognition, emphasizing that accredited programs not only meet the highest educational standards but also open pathways for international mobility through Washington Accord membership.

The interactive nature of the event allowed attendees to raise questions and clarify specific concerns regarding the application process. The session was widely appreciated for its practical insights and relevance to both academia and the engineering profession.

With the growing demand for globally recognized engineering education, IESL continues to play a pivotal role in guiding academic institutions toward accreditation, helping to elevate the standard of engineering education in Sri Lanka.
